Amazon founder Jeff Bezos flashes his $81bn smile while canoodling with wife.. No delivery drones needed: Amazon founder Jeff Bezos flashes his $81bn smile while canoodling with wife during some real-world shopping at an ancient Italian market.
He made his billions as the king of online shopping, but Jeff Bezos proved he still enjoys the simple things when he shopped at a historic outdoor market in Rome.
The Amazon founder was spotted basking in the warm Italian sun and company of his wife MacKenzie on Thursday during a much-deserved vacation with his family.
The group, which included Bezos' parents Jacklyn and Mike, his sister Christina and her husband Steve, and his brother Mark with his wife Lisa, were seen posing for photos just like every other tourist in the historic city.
Bezos even bought a zucchini flower box at Campo dei Fiori Market, which dates back to the 15th century and has been filled with vendors daily since 1869.
After some outdoor shopping at the market, the group grabbed some pizza for lunch at Campo dei Fiori.
They then spent the afternoon walking around and admiring the fountains of Piazza Navona.
That was where they all gathered for a group photo.
Bezos' European vacation comes five months into what may be the greatest year of his life thanks to the success of Amazon.
The online retailer that was initially created to sell books followed up the success of their Emmy and Golden Globe-winning original programming like 'Transparent' and 'Mozart in the Jungle' with two films that won big at the Academy Awards.
'The Salesman' won in the Best Foreign Language category while the critically acclaimed 'Manchester By the Sea' took home Best Actor honors for Casey Affleck and Best Original Screenplay for writer and director Kenneth Lonergan.
And then there are his rockets.
Bezos said he is selling $1 billion in stock of his retail giant Amazon each year to finance his rocket company, Blue Origin, which aims to carry tourists to space by next year.
At an appearance at the 33rd Space Symposium in Colorado Springs, Colorado, back in April, Bezos vowed to lower the cost of space travel and start taking customers to space by next year.
The entrepreneur did not say how much a ticket would cost, as he showed off the New Shepard rocket and a mock-up of the large-windowed capsule that tourists will one day ride to suborbital space and back.
Nor did he say how much of his own personal fortune he has poured into Blue Origin, which is building a reusable rocket and is seen as a competitor to internet mogul Elon Musk's SpaceX.
